  • How do I encourage site visitors to comment and vote?

    • dan40
    • 4. Juli 2023 06:59

I created a new Article which shows at the top of each menu item. For example, I created a Top Rated menu item and associated it with an article called "Top Rated". Then I added a new module and called it "Top Rated" and gave it the parameters I wanted to show. It's kind of a sneaky way of doing what I want it to do, but it works like a charm, but have only had it up for about 4 hours. I'll have to wait for people to read the article at the top of the page to see if anyone understands that they can rate and comment on each image.

  • Can I include a small thumbail of each image downloaded in the email download notification?

in en-GB.com_joomgallery.ini, there is this line:

COM_JOOMGALLERY_MESSAGE_NEW_DOWNLOAD_BODY="The image with the title %1$s (Filename: %2$s) has been downloaded by %3$s!"

If I could figure out or you could tell me what variable represents the thumbnail of the image where it could be inserted into this line, I might have some luck.

Is it possible to have JG insert or include the thumbnail of the image downloaded in the email notifications for downloads? What would I need to include in the .php file? Which php file would it be that does this?

So my site has been up for awhile now, and I'm getting lots of hits and downloads but nobody seems to be commenting or rating (voting) on any images. I did that on some of my images and there is a direct menu link for "Top Rated" and "Image Comments", but mine are the only ones there.

How do I put a message in the header that reminds site visitors that they can rate and comment on any image?

  • Sub-sub categories have no random thumbnail

Follow-up, never mind, I figured this out. In "Category View", there is a tab for "Sub-Categories". Under "Random Thumbnail", I just selected "from both" and it worked fine.

Hi, I wanted to create a sub-subcategory which is 3 levels deep as shown in the screen capture below, and show a random thumbnail image from the subcategory, but it's not showing me any random image:

    Here's my category structure...

    Screenshot 2023-07-03 120142.png

In Gallery View/Random Thumbnail, I have it set to "from both", and in the actual gallery, it shows this:

    Screenshot 2023-07-03 120409.png

How do I get it to show a random thumbnail for the subcategories of "Disney Characters"?

Should there be a "from all" Random Thumbnail option?

    Thanks,
    Dan

  • How do I create a featured image that will display for 24 hours?

No response to this? It would be kind of a neat feature to have. I have not yet discovered how to do it myself and would love some help with this. Thanks!

  • How do I create a featured image that will display for 24 hours?

    • dan40
    • 8. April 2023 00:29

I'd like to create a Featured Image that will be randomly chosen and displayed for 24 hours, beginning at midnight, and continue to be displayed until midnight the following day. I can't find a setting in JoomImages where there is a setting for this, unless I'm missing something. I can do a box for it, but it's a Random image that refreshes every time the page refreshes, and that's not what I want, I want it to show the same image to everyone chosen randomly for 24 hours. Could someone here kindly recommend a new plugin or setting in JoomImages that will allow me to do this? Thanks!

This is exactly what we are going to do for JoomGallery 4.

    I love it!

Have you seen that there is the possibility to use Joomlas SmartSearch for searching images since JG 3.6?

With Smartsearch you can even search with multiple search words to make the search more specific. Especially useful for huge image galleries...

I think I saw something in the recent past about that, but I'm not sure how that would work for me. For images with no descriptions, that wouldn't be useful anyway, I'd still have to touch/edit each image individually.

What I would really like to see is the ability to add multiple tags to an image, for example, like #sunset, #cloudy, #clear, #night, #moon, #stars, #landscape, basically every tag one could think of to describe the conditions around a sunset, and then have the search look for the tags instead of or in addition to what's in the description. But I am no expert on programming, so I guess it will be quite awhile before we see integrated image tagging.

Hi Elfangor93, thanks for the detailed explanation and possible resolution to my problem.

Given all the effort you took and research you did to respond to my question I kind of fixed this on my own after fiddling with Joomla permissions.

What I did was create a new Joomla user and gave it admin privileges and removed "Delete" from the user ID Permissions and set the user ID so that it can only log on to the Frontend and not the back end like I can, so therefore the only thing the new user can do is logon to the Frontend and there is no danger of anyone deleting my categories and images.

When I logged on as the user, I went to the detail view of several images and there is an "Edit Image" icon but no "Delete" icon, excactly what I needed in the scenario I was thinking about.

If I can find a successful candidate or prospect to help me with this monumental task, I'll share the ID and password with the user. This might not be a very secure way of doing this as the user will easily be able to give the user ID and password to someone else and potentially flood my descriptions with spam, but at least if it's a legitimate user that I get to help me with this then I won't have to do it all myself. Or, what I could do is open up registrations and have the user create his own account, then do the same thing for his ID that I did for the one I created, that way, the person is less likely to share the password for his own account. Plus, if the user ends up spamming my site then I can just delete the ID and close registrations, no questions asked and no (further) harm done.

I won't have descriptions showing under the image, only key words in the description can be searched, like if a person looks for the word "sunset" in the search bar all the images containing a sunset will be shown but they will not see the description under the image. I'm a fan of not having too much clutter on my gallery pages so for me it'll be good to hide the descriptions, and only enable them when I want to see what descriptions have been left by my helper, and then turn them off again if I think they are fairly accurate descriptions or key words.

Thanks again, I appreciate your time and effort in helping me with my issue.

  • Is there a way to restrict someone to just entering image descriptions?

Hi, I want to start a non-paying job for someone to start entering contextual descriptions on all of my images. I have way too many to do myself and it would take me years to add descriptions to 43,000 images. In the past couple of days I've been entering descriptions like crazy, and opened my Search function so that a person looking for any one tag or word that is in the description shows the corresponding image(s). That works well enough. I've been doing a lot of research and testing how I think it might be done, and it can't be done just by giving someone "manager" or "editor" access in Joomla. I have to give them Full Admin control, same as me so they have access to the Joomgallery component, in order for them to be able to get into each image (either in the front end or back end) so they can start editing. That gives them control to delete all of my images and categories and I'm just not ready to have someone I don't really know start willy-nilly deleting everything. I need someone I can trust.

How do I restrict someone from deleting my entire library and ONLY allow them to enter desciptions for each image in the Joomgallery component? I checked Joomla permissions and found out I would need to give them the same access I have in order to do this, something I hoped I could have avoided. Is there a way to do this? Maybe allow them to log in on the Front end and click the Edit button under each image, or allow them to log on to the back end (which I know how to grant) and not have them ruin my entire image collection?

This is all very frustrating. Thanks to anyone who can help.

On the Upload screen, it asks for a "Generic Description". Can that be turned off, as I do not use descriptions for my images. Or can the box be resized? Where is that in the template.css file?

the size of the input box is determined by the respective template and not by JoomGallery.

    I knew that already.

    Zitat

    input, textarea, .uneditable-input {
     width: 206px;
    }

    Worked beautifully, thank you!

  • webp images still not working

I'm using the latest version of JoomGallery and imagemagick for my image processor, and recently tried to add two .webp images and although it processed the image, it could not produce the thumbnail or original image. I see though, that your team has been working on this but still comes up as a broken image. How can I get .webp images to show up?

  • Problem with embedded image tags and the Search function

I just had a bright idea. Why not just use Description and not use Keywords? :)

  • Problem with embedded image tags and the Search function

    • dan40
    • 1. Juli 2022 20:10

The keywords/tags are saved in a field in the Metadata section for each image in plain text (as far as I know). I had these keywords in the Keywords field as noted below, and copied each of those to the Description field in the Metadata. When re-uploaded the image and did a search for any of those keywords in the description, the results came back normally.

Here's a link to the image detail page:

    Photos - Category: Walt Disney World, August 1984 - Image: 26 (dansmith.ca)

If you do a search for any of the keywords above, the image will show up.

Could a subsequent version of JoomGallery allow searching the Keywords metadata?

I'm using Adobe Bridge to add Keywords (tags) to all my files. What this does is adds the keywords to the meta information. The search was working when I first uploaded the images to the albums, but have since stopped working. After I add all the necessary keywords in Bridge, then delete the image from the album and re-upload the image, and then do a Search for the keyword, no resulting images appear. It works with some, but not others.

Search results based on image tags seems to be inconsistent. I should be able to search for any of the highlighted keywords in the image below and have results appear. If I search for "Castle" in this case, it should show this image along with any other images that contain the keyword "Castle". Am I doing something wrong?

Edit: How does the "Use Image Metadata" tab work? Aren't the results searchable?

Thanks very much for your timely responses. Much appreciated. I'll just use Highslide JS for my image pop-up handler going forward, until a new version of the others is released.
