  • Is there a way to hide the "Description:" text for Category view?

For clarity's sake, some of my photos do have descriptions, so I don't want to disable the whole thing:

Ideally, if the DIV that had the word "Description" in it had a CSS class, I could mark it as hidden, but at the moment there's nothing differentiating that text from the rest of the description.

Never mind - it loaded, it just took longer than I was expecting. This is resolved!

After migrating from JG3 to JG4, I noticed that one of my sub-categories was under the wrong parent (This was an issue in the original site I didn't notice, not an issue with the migration). I tried to change the Parent Category of it, but it's grayed out in the Category properties. Is there a way to change the Parent Category of an existing category? Could I do it by editing the SQL, if needed?

My gallery has a majority of photos with no description. However, each photo in Category View has a line "Description:" under it.

    Example: https://krdev.aiskon.net/gallery/past-events/june-2019.html

Is there a way to hide this text, disable it, or remove it? I would be fine removing the label (but not the actual Description text if there is any).

You can make further settings (e.g. design settings for the displayed categories) in the Configuration Manager in the 'Frontend Views >> Category View' tab.

Wonderful, this is exactly what I needed! Thank you!

Now to play with a bunch of CSS... :)

I have an older Joomla 3 site that is running JG3, and has about 15 years worth of photos, organized into Years / Months. The structure is needed because if someone wants to say "What happened in August, 2012?" they can browse to that year & month, and look at the photos for that event.

I set up a test site and migrated to Joomla 5 & JG4, which ran into only one minor hitch (one photo would not migrate, and I could not find which one in the logs - it's an acceptable loss, everything else seems to have moved over successfully).

Now, I am trying to recreate the same Gallery layout, or something close to it, on the new site, but I can't seem to get it to display the Categories in the correct order, or display the information for each Category.

    Old JG3 site: https://krold.aiskon.net/gallery.html

    New JG4 site: https://krdev.aiskon.net/gallery.html

Is anyone able to guide me on how to configure the top-level display to show the Categories similar to the JG3 setup?

    Thank you for your help!

I am testing now on a demo site on my home host.

Would it help if I gave other people access to my site? There's nothing important on it, I can let people log in as Users, Moderators, or Admins (if I trust you) to see what various user types do.

Thank you for this! I will begin testing this weekend.

What are the proper steps to upgrade from J3 & JG3 to J4 and JG4? I'm working on a rough outline for documentation purposes, here's what I have so far:

    1) Create a new site on my server called "testsite.domain.com"

    2) Use Akeeba Backup to back up my live site, and restore it to testsite.domain.com

    3) Go to https://github.com/JoomGalleryfriends/JG4-dev and download a current copy of JG4 repository in ZIP format.

    4) Upgrade test site from J3 to J4

    (Next Steps uncertain:)

    Uninstall JG3?

    Install JG4 over JG3?

Do I need to change PHP versions from 7 to 8 at any point, or after all upgrades are done?

Many thanks for your great work!

With the End of Life of Joomla 3 approaching, all of my Joomla sites are now on Joomla 4, except the one with a JoomGallery 3 gallery. For the purposes of security and support, I will suggest the main priority be getting compatible / migrated to Joomla 4, so that sites can be safe and supported. (PHP 8 support is also critical for this, as PHP7 is ending.)
